Skateboarding has always been somewhat of an underground subculture, so naturally, it’s interesting to see public figures who skate.

In this list we take a look at 15 celebrities who skateboard.

Keep in mind these aren’t just random famous people who got caught holding/standing on a skateboard. These are celebrities who grew up skateboarding and can actually ride around at a minimum.

Jack Black

Jack Black is an actor, comedian, musician, and apparently, he also kind of skates.

Recently Jack Black has been posting a lot of skateboarding videos on Instagram and youtube, and he even made a video skating his backyard miniramp with Tony Hawk and Riley Hawk.

Jack Black has also been seen skateboarding in a few videos on The Berrics, and he even made a cameo in the skateboard video “Pretty Sweet” a few years back.

In most of the videos of Jack Black skateboarding, he usually just pushes around and doesn’t do any tricks, but he’s still much more comfortable riding a skateboard than a lot of other celebrities.

He’s definitely not that good and he skates a board straight out of the 80s, but he looks like he has fun with it and it’s sick that he even skates at all.

Jason Lee

Jason lee is a former pro skater and actor probably most well known for his roles in my name is Earl, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Coach Frank in EA Skate 3.

Jason Lee was as a skater long before he was an actor, but many people still don’t know he used to be a professional skateboarder.

He was one of the top pros in the 90’s, and he was well known in skateboarding long before he started acting.

Not only was Jason Lee a professional skateboarder, but he also co-founded Stereo skateboards, which was one of the most popular skateboard companies throughout the 90s and early 00s.

If you want to see some solid footage of Jason Lee skateboarding, I recommend checking out his part in “Video Days”, which is probably one of his most well-known.

John Kelly

John Kelly is a professional football player and is currently a running back for the Los Angels Rams, but he’s also a skateboarder.

Most people would assume that the kind of person who plays football isn’t the kind of person who skates, but John Kelly manages to bridge the gap pretty well.

The Berrics did a video on John Kelly and his skateboarding, and you can tell that he genuinely loves to skate.

The cool thing is, not only does he seem like a genuine skateboarder, but he’s actually pretty good.

For someone who’s a professional athlete, the risk of getting hurt while skating is so much higher than most other professions, so you have to respect that he even goes out and skates at all.

Beto O’Rourke

Beto O’Rourke is a former congressman from Texas, and more recently ran for president. Even though this list is about celebrities who skateboard he’s technically a politician, but it’s still worth mentioning.

There’s a video out there of Beto O’Rourke skateboarding across a Whataburger parking lot, and he also skated across the stage at one of his rallies.

Judging by the videos he’s not very comfortable on a board, but then again, he was riding a small 60s style board which might have had something to do with it.

With that said, at a bare minimum he can ride a skateboard, which I guess is more than you can say for just about every other person in congress.

Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving is a professional basketball player in the NBA and currently plays for the Brooklyn Nets.

Kyrie Irving doesn’t seem great at skateboarding, but he can at least cruise around, and he seems like he has a lot of respect for it.

He’s mentioned in a few interviews how much he loves skateboarding and how much he respects the culture, which is pretty cool to hear coming from someone in the NBA.

The Berrics have posted videos of Kyrie Irving has had videos skateboarding, and he’s definitely not the best skateboarder, but it’s still cool to see.

Tyler, The Creator

Tyler The Creator is a rapper, songwriter, and actor.

Tyler has had interviews where he talked about skateboarding, he’s mentioned skateboarding in his music, and there are also a few videos out there of him actually skating.

Out of all of the “celebrities who skateboard”, Tyler The Creator is definitely one the best.

In the few clips you can find of Tyler The Creator skateboarding, you can tell that he’s much more comfortable on a board than most other celebrities who skate.

Also, he can actually do tricks which automatically puts him in the top 1% of celebrity skaters.

J Mascis

J Mascis is the lead singer and guitarist for the band Dinosaur Jr, which has seriously been in countless skate videos throughout the years.

Dinosaur Jr has had skateboarding in a lot of their music videos, and in the videos there’s always footage of J Mascis skateboarding, usually on an 80s-style board.

J Mascis has had interviews on The Ride Channel, as well as an interview on Thrasher with Jake Phelps.

He doesn’t really do any tricks, but Dinosaur Jr played a major role in both music and skateboarding culture, so the fact that he can even skate around is pretty cool.

James Hetfield

James Hetfield is the cofounder of Metallica, which is without a doubt one of the biggest heavy metal bands of all time.

Unlike a lot of musicians who use skateboards as a prop, James Hetfield was actually a real skateboarder.

In the early years of Metallica, James Hetfield actually broke his wrist twice while skateboarding in the same year. This caused Metallica to cancel shows, and his management company eventually added a clause to his contract forbidding him from skateboarding while he was on tour.

Over the years James Hetfield has had interviews with Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Thrasher Magazine, and he’s even a hidden character in the Tony Hawks Pro Skater video game.

Jonah Hill

Jonah Hill is an actor, director, producer, screenwriter, and comedian.

Most of the skateboarding community knows Jonah Hill as the writer and producer behind “Mid90s”, which was an independent movie based around skateboarding.

It’s hard to find any footage of Jonah Hill skateboarding, but Jenkem Magazine and Transworld both wrote articles on how he grew up hanging out at a skate shop in West Los Angeles, and he’s kind of popped in and out of the skate scene over the years.

He did a pretty funny commercial for Palace in London, he’s in a clip with Tyshawn Jones in a Supreme skate video, and he also did a mini top five with Crailtap.

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber is mostly known for being a popstar/singer, but he’s also kind of a skateboarder as well.

Right off the bat, a lot of people are going to disagree and say that he’s not a skateboarder, but the dude can inward heelflip, which definitely isn’t a beginner trick

There’s been a lot of footage come out of Justin Bieber skateboarding over the years, so most people already know that he somewhat skates.

A few years ago there were a few Justin Bieber skateboarding videos with Rob Dyrdek at the Fantasy Factory, and he even did an interview with Tony Hawk on the Ride Channel.

More recently, Nyjah Huston posted a video skateboarding with Justin Bieber at his private skatepark, and he actually does some decent flatground tricks in the video.

Tom Delong

Tom Delong is the former vocalist, guitarist, and cofounder of the band Blink 182. He grew up skateboarding in Southern California, and he was a skateboarder before he even started making music.

There’s not a ton of footage out there of Tom Delong skateboarding, but there are some old clips of him skating in a schoolyard, and it seems like at one point he was pretty decent.

Tom Delong said that Christian Hosoi, Chris Miller, and Matt Hensley were some of his favorite skaters, and he’s also talked about skipping school when he was a kid to go street skating with his friends.

He has a full interview on the ride channel where he just talks about skateboarding in general, and you can tell that he was an actual skateboarder growing up.

Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne is most well known for his rapping, but he’s also been outspoken about his love for skateboarding.

When Lil Wayne first started skateboarding, a lot of people thought it was a gimmick, but Lil Wayne has been skateboarding for years now and it doesn’t seem like he intends on stopping anytime soon.

There’s a lot of footage out there of Lil Wayne skateboarding, including a full-length video part he dropped called “Sorry For The Sk8”.

Fred Durst

Fred Durst is the lead singer and frontman of the band Limp Bizkit.

There have been several occasions where Fred Durst talked about growing up skateboarding and the influence it had on him.

You can find footage of Fred Durst skateboarding in the 90s on a vert ramp, and compared to a lot of other celebrities who skate, he’s actually pretty good.

More recently a video came out of Fred Durst skateboarding on his backyard mini ramp, so it seems like he still skates from time to time.

Jaden Smith

Jaden Smith (Will Smith’s son) is an actor, rapper, and songwriter.

In the past, Jaden Smith has talked a lot about skateboarding, and he’s had it in several of his music videos.

It’s not too hard to find footage of Jaden Smith skateboarding, and although he isn’t the best, he’s still a lot better than many other celebrity skateboarders.

Steve-O

Steve O is a comedian, entertainer, and podcaster most well known for the Jackass series, Wild Boyz TV show, and more recently his podcast “Steve O’s Wild Ride”.

Throughout his career, there have been several photos and videos of Steve O skateboarding, and he recently released a video on his youtube channel documenting his “career” as a skateboarder.

Michael

I've been skating for 10+ years, and along the way I've learned a few things that work, and a lot of things that don't.
